Medicare Advantage Specialists - HIPAA Compliance Policy
Medicare Advantage Specialists, Inc. of Pelham, Alabama, has adopted this HIPAA Compliance Policy to comply with our responsibility to protect individually identifiable health information and the system components that such resides in under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 ("HIPAA"), the security and privacy regulations implementing HIPAA, other federal and state laws protecting confidentiality of health information, professional ethics, and accreditation requirements. This policy governs ongoing compliance with HIPAA. All personnel of Medicare Advantage Specialists, Inc. must comply with this policy. Demonstrated competence in the requirements of this policy is an important part of every employee's responsibility.
Policy
- Medicare Advantage Specialists, Inc. shall operate in compliance with all the requirements of HIPAA.

Medicare Advantage Specialists, Inc. shall provide information to patients about their privacy Rights and how their confidential health information can be used, in the form of a Notice of Privacy Practices.

Medicare Advantage Specialists, Inc. shall adopt clear privacy procedures.

Medicare Advantage Specialists, Inc. shall train employees so that they understand privacy procedures and requirements.

Medicare Advantage Specialists, Inc. shall designate an individual to be responsible for ensuring that the privacy procedures are adopted and followed.

Medicare Advantage Specialists, Inc. shall secure patient records containing individually identifiable health information so that they are protected from both accidential and deliberate misuse.

Medicare Advantage Specialists, Inc. shall provide records and compliance reports to the Secretary of Health and Human Services his designees, and to representatives of the Office for Civil Rights, which investigates patient complaints and violations of HIPAA.

Medicare Advantage Specialists, Inc. shall cooperate with compliant investigations and compliance reviews and permit access to information, as required under HIPAA.
Compliance and Enforcement
All supervisors are responsible for enforcing this policy. Employees who violate this policy are subject to discipline up to and including termination in accordance with Medicare Advantage Specialists, Inc.'s Sanction Policy.
